EmploymentInternational students who attend CSU are allowed to work on campus in student assistantship positions. These positions allow you to work up 19 hours a week at the government established pay rate. Please be advised that such assistantships are limited and competitive. If you are interested in becoming an assistant you should contact the CSU Career Center. All U.S. employers require their employees to have an American Social Security number, which is a unique number issued by the government. The International Student Coordinator can assist you in the application process, which usually takes from two to five weeks. For more information about obtaining a Social Security number, please click here. International students may not work off-campus without special authorization from their International Student Coordinator. Such authorization might be granted for internships or economic hardship due to extenuating circumstances. Students may not apply for a work permit for off-campus employment until they have been in the United States at least one full academic year (nine months).
